Submissions
We commend you for wanting to put your writing out into the world! It is no feeble task, as we understand the intimacy and heart that a writer pours into their work. Thank you for considering the Serein Lark to be the new home of a slice of your heart.
We publish continously. Once a submission has been accepted and gone through the process of edits and interviews, it will be posted shortly thereafter as a stand-alone.
We accept submissions year-round, but may close submissions temporarily due to workload or unforeseen events.
Accepted writers will receive an email regarding our decision, followed by a discussion of any required editing. Upon publication, the author will be paid 70NOK (~7USD) by paypal.
Without further ado, here are the submission guidelines to which we ask you to adhere. We will not consider submissions that do not meet these requirements.
Formatting and Word Count
Please upload your work as a single .doc, .docx, or .pdf file, or as a Google document, and use a sensible font, such as Times New Roman or Calibri, with double line spacing. Up to 4000 words.
Genre and Theme
We accept only comics and prose in the form of fiction or creative non-fiction. It can be a finished piece as well as the opening to a longer one, such as a novella or novel.
Fantastical elements are encouraged due to their whimsical nature. There is never a specific theme, but the piece should fit the overall aesthetics of the Serein Lark Review.
A submission may be rejected if the content is considered unnecessarily violent or racist, ableist, homophobic, transphobic, or sexist, thereby disagreeing with our values. It is still permitted to write about these topics from a sensible perspective.
Eligibility
We encourage new and established writers of all nationalities, identities, ages, and backgrounds to submit their tales and ideas to the Serein Lark Review, as long as the writer agrees with our values, which you can read about here.
Response Times
As the Serein Lark is a brand-new magazine with a limited staff, response times may vary, but it should never take longer than 1 week. If there is a delay, you will receive an update.
Rights
The Serein Lark retains the right to publish your submission in future social media and blog posts, etc., without asking for permission from the author. The author keeps all other rights as the owner and creator of their work and may publish their text on personal social media and blogs, but not in other magazines and journals.
Simultaneous& Multiple Submissions
Encouraged! Please notify us immediately via email if your work is accepted elsewhere. You may also submit more than one piece at a time.
Artifical Intelligence
Any use of AI text generators, such as ChatGPT, will result in immediate discarding, and any future submissions from the author will be rejected by default. (There is nothing romantic, nostalgic or whimsical about AI, and we make a strong stand against its involvement with the arts.)
How to Submit

Prepare your work by ensuring it aligns with our guidelines. Even if we may offer some editing to our accepted writers, major structural or grammatical issues may result in rejection.

Take a break. Have a cup of tea and look out the window at the seasonal shades of the trees and the shapes of the clouds. Take a deep breath.

Send your work via email to sereinlark@gmail.com. The subject should be "Submission", and the body of the text should state your genre, word count and title. A cover letter or bio is not necessary.
